Privacy & tracking
Last updated 5 October 2026
The short version: this site has no accounts, no sign-up and no cookies. It counts how many people open each page, and it cannot tell who they are. Nothing you type into the calculator ever leaves your browser. If you would rather not be counted, there is a button further down that stops it.
mysleepdebt.com is run by Thalor Labs Pty Ltd (ACN 702 519 113), an Australian company registered in New South Wales. Every claim on this page is a claim about the code that builds the site, and that code is public.
What you type into the calculator
It stays in the page. Your sleep need and the seven nightly figures are held in the browser's memory, the arithmetic runs on your own device, and none of it is sent anywhere or written to storage. Reload the page and it is gone. We have never had a copy and there is nowhere for one to be kept.
What this site stores in your browser
No cookies. Not ours and not anyone else's — there are no advertising pixels, no social buttons, no embedded trackers and no third-party scripts of any kind.
One thing is stored, and this is all of it:
| What | A random number under the key msd.visit |
|---|---|
| Where | sessionStorage — the browser tab's own scratch space |
| How long | Until you close the tab. It is not written to disk and does not survive. |
| Why | So that one person opening three pages is not counted as three people. |
| What it is not | Not your name, email, device id or advertising id. It is generated in your browser, it means nothing anywhere else, and a new tab gets a new one. |
If your browser blocks storage, the page still works and the view is simply counted on its own.
What we count, and what we never see
When a page loads, four things are sent to our own server:
- the site name (
mysleepdebt.com) - which page you opened
- the address of the page that linked you here, if there was one
- the random tab number described above
Two further things are worth stating plainly, because they are the ones people assume:
- Your browser's user-agent arrives with the request, as it does with every request to every website. We use it to work out a device type, a browser and an operating system — "iPhone, Safari, iOS" — and then discard it. It is not stored.
- Your IP address is used to stop one machine flooding the counter, and is never written down. It is not in the records and we cannot look it up.
What comes out the other end is a count: how many views, how many visits, which pages, which referrers, which devices, which hours were busiest. There is no per-person view, because there is no person in the data to build one from.
No third party is involved. The figures go to our own API in Australia (AWS
region ap-southeast-2) and to nobody else. There is no Google Analytics, no
Facebook pixel and no analytics company in this site.
We also do not record what you do on the page. Moving a slider, changing your sleep need, reading the result — none of it is reported.
Turning it off
There is no consent banner on this site, because there is nothing here that needs one: no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no profiling and no advertising. Rather than interrupt you to ask, the switch is simply here, and it works immediately.
This remembers your choice in this browser, under the
key msd.optout. It is the one thing this site will keep on your device, it is set
only if you press the button, and clearing your browser data removes it.
You do not have to use the button. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control
(Sec-GPC) or Do Not Track, this site treats that as a no and does
not count the visit.
What this site does not do
- No accounts, no passwords, no sign-in — there is nothing to sign in to.
- No email list. Nothing on this site asks for your address.
- No advertising, no advertising identifiers, no retargeting.
- No tracking you across other websites. The tab number means nothing off this site.
- No selling or sharing of anything, to anyone. There is nothing here worth selling and no arrangement to sell it under.
The sleep figures you enter are not health records
Because they never leave your browser, we hold no health information about you at all. This is a calculator and a general guide, not a medical service — see the terms.
Changes, and how to reach us
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. If the site ever starts doing something this page does not describe, the page is wrong and we want to know.
